Koi herpesvirus disease (KHVD) is a highly contagious viral infection caused by Cyprinid herpesvirus-3 (CyHV-3). It primarily affects common carp (Cyprinus carpio) and its ornamental variety, koi carp, causing significant mortality in both wild and cultured fish populations. Symptoms of KHVD include white or gray gill lesions, hemorrhages on the skin, and sunken eyes.
